Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu (1400 m)

The alluring flight into Kathmandu Valley, with beautiful Himalayas and terraced valley views, drops you at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). One of the Himalayan Masters’ representatives greets you and takes you to the hotel.

Your arrival time in Kathmandu determines how much time you will have to explore the city.

Arrive in the morning or early afternoon. You can visit some popular sites in Kathmandu, including Kathmandu Durbar Square or Swoyambhu Temple—the Monkey Temple.

Besides, remember to prepare enough for your trek, including a gear check and meeting with the company personnel and guide. Also, we’ll talk about how you’d like to get to Pokhara from Kathmandu with two travel options.

Option 1: Airway (25 minutes flight)

This option is amazing if you have limited time and get bored while taking a long bus journey.

Remember that taking a short flight can shorten your trip by one day.

Option 2: Roadway (6 to 7 Hours drive)

If you have enough time and are fond of travelling on a luxurious tourist bus, capturing the greenery through the windowpane could be your best option. You get the opportunity to begin your trek in the fresh morning.

Day 2: Flight From Kathmandu (1400 m) to Pokhara (822 m), Drive From Pokhara to Nayapool (1070 m) and Trek from Nayapool to Ulleri (2050)

If you start the trek right from Nayapul, a steep climb to Ulleri after Tikhedhungga can be a bit challenging. Beyond that, the route to Poon Hill is quite easy and can be achieved by any new trekker.

It takes about 3 hours to reach Tikhedhungga. Hereafter, the route to Ulleri is a steep hill, which takes around 2 hours.

In case the flight is delayed or due to any reason, we are late to reach Nayapul on time. Then, we will drive up to Hille and trek for 3 hours to reach Ulleri. We will stay overnight in Ulleri.

Having good physical fitness and practising regular exercise before the Poon Hill trek is obviously helpful.

    Day 3: Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2870 m)

    After breakfast at around 7 a.m., you will start your trek at 8. This day is special for you as most of the trail goes through the jungle and beautiful waterfalls.

    It takes around 3 hours to reach Nangge Thanti (2430 m), where we will have a delicious lunch.

    However, some trekkers prefer to reach Ghorepani before having lunch and wish to spend the whole afternoon in the surroundings of Ghorepani.

    After that, we will continue our trek to Ghorepani for around 2 hours to stay overnight there.

    It is also a short hike day, and we recommend you do a relaxed trek, standing and staring at every wonderful station.

    There are two Ghorepani villages, the lower and the upper. Most check posts are in the lower Ghorepani. The two villages are just within 10 minutes’ walking distance.

    Day 4: Hike to Poon Hill (3210 m) & Trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani

    You will have to wake up early to catch the sunrise view from the Poon Hill peak. It takes around 1 hour to reach the hilltop.

    After spending around 1 hour and 30 minutes on the hilltop, you will return back to Ghorepani for breakfast.

    The peak is extremely cold, probably snowing. Wear enough clothes to keep you warm. Carrying water is a must; you get thirsty while climbing up. A headlamp is essential as it might be dark on the trail while climbing up to the peak.

    A camera, gloves, beanie, hiking pole, and some money are enough to carry. Do not carry unnecessary things; they make the trek more exhausting. Safely lock your stuff in the teahouse room. You can buy the hot drink on the top for nearly three times the price of the one down in the village.

    The descent might be faster than the ascent, but the trail might be slippery because of the snow. The hiking poles are best to use if you have them.

    Some of the visitors also trek to Poon Hill elevation in the afternoon. If the weather is clear, the views in the afternoon are even more stunning.

    In fact, the trail is not so crowded in the afternoon, and you may not need to pay the entrance fee.

    About Poon Hill

    The Poon Hill (3210 m) is an amusing peak, especially popular for sunrise and sunset views and stunning Himalayan views. If the sky is clear, you can see thousands of twinkling stars, giving the impression of paradise.

    If you are trekking to Poon Hill Himalayas in the peak season, don’t worry about getting lost, as the trail is filled with hundreds of trekkers.

    Trek From Ghorepani to Tadapani

    Trek Route: Ghorepani Deurali (2990 m) Ban Thanti Tadapani

    After returning from the hike, enjoy your fantastic breakfast at the teahouse. Then, the trek to Tadapani begins, where you must walk for nearly 4-5 hours.

    The trail goes through the patches of local villages. It allows you to stop for lunch, rest, or buy/refill your water bottle at Ban Thanti (2180 m).

    Most of this Poon Hill route is downhill, probably slippery with snow (only in winter). There is one significant 200 m steep uphill just before Tadapani, the last ascend of the day.

    Most trekkers stay overnight at Tadapani. A lot of teahouses are there offering suitable accommodation.

    Tadapani: Basic teahouses providing hot showers but no attached bathrooms, good food and local drinks. It is known for its good views of Fishtail Mountain and the Annapurna range.

    Day 5: Trek to Ghandruk (1940 m) from Tadapani & Drive to Pokhara

    After taking the final Himalayan breakfast in Tadapani, the trek to Ghandruk starts through the forest of rhododendron, sal, and oak trees along the side of the Kimrong Khola (river). Moreover, the trail between Tadapani and Ghandruk is easier than that of Ghorepani to Tadapani as it only passes through the beautiful forest downhill and consists of about 6 kilometres.

    The variety of unique birds, many species of flowers, and amazing views of Mount Annapurna South, Himchuli, and Fishtail make the trip pleasant and beautiful. Also, there are many shops and teahouses along the way for snacks, resting, and buying water.

    The trail continues to Bhaisi Kharka (buffalo pasture) and finally reaches Ghandruk, one of the biggest Gurung villages. The Ghorepani Poon hill trek is less crowded than others. We recommend you visit the Gurung Cultural Museum.

    After the Ghorepani Poon hill trek, having some relaxation, we further start another short (30-minute) walk up to Kimche, where a jeep will pick you up for Pokhara.

    In Kathmandu, after you check in at the hotel, you can enjoy the rest of the afternoon and evening exploring Kathmandu’s streets. You can visit the capital city on foot, by bicycle, or by taxi, and you can probably buy souvenirs in Thamel.

    Furthermore, if you plan to take a bus, you need to travel 7 to 8 hours, probably reaching your Kathmandu hotel in the evening.

    The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is categorized as easy to moderate, which means that tourists of all ages, families- especially those with young children, and those with little trekking experience would be able to do this trek.

    This walk requires carrying out the trek along steep hills, but the slope is gradual enough to carry out the exercise lightly.
