Before, it was mandatory to have at least two people in a group for a restricted area permit. Now this rule has been removed, and solo travelers can apply for permits without needing a companion.

However, solo trekking in Nepal doesn’t need any partner; a few key regulations remain in place to ensure safety and local employment.

• A registered trekking agency is mandatory for the permit process. They will also take care of the rescue and bear full responsibility for emergency rescue operations, while other provisions will be governed by existing laws.
• Foreign nationals trekking in restricted areas can obtain trekking permits through an online platform, which makes the process faster, simpler, and more service-friendly.
• The Department of Immigration(DoI) has also set limits on the number of trekkers. To ensure safety and better monitoring in restricted areas, seven trekkers per guide in a group are made mandatory.
• The Department of Immigration has also revised its system while applying. An applicant requires a valid Nepal visa number at the time of application.
