Table: Wi-Fi, Mobile Network and Charging in Langtang Region
Wi-Fi in Langtang, Gosaikunda, Helambu and Tamang Heritage
The Langtang Region includes many popular hiking routes, and each route is unique in its network and linking features. We will explore the Wi-Fi service on all the routes through Langtang.
Wi-Fi on Langtang Valley
Most tea houses in the Langtang Valley Trek have decent Wi-Fi and it’s especially reliable at Syabrubesi, Lama Hotel, Langtang Village and Kyanjin Gompa. You will usually see local Wi-Fi’s being used in most areas.
Using Wi-Fi in Langtang costs between NPR 300 and 500 a day, depending on the spot and its elevation.
The connection is fine, so people can handle messaging, WhatsApp calls and browsing social networks. Wi-Fi signals are stronger at some lodges in Kyanjin Gompa.
Wi-Fi on Gosaikunda Trek
You can use Wi-Fi at Sing Gompa, Laurebina and at Gosaikunda Lake. After Sing Gompa, the connections get spotty and may not be stable all the time. During the initial phase of the trek you will have a reliable Wi-Fi.
Standard Wi-Fi is based on local networks, and you can get it for about NPR 500. If you think you’ll use the internet here, download important stuff before you head higher.
Don’t expect reliable Wi-Fi after Lauribina.

Wi-Fi on Helambu Valley
The Helambu region is slightly better connected due to its lower altitude and proximity to Kathmandu. Lodges in Melamchi Gaun, Tarkeghyang, and Sermathang offer Wi-Fi through local routers.
The cost of Wi-Fi in Helambu Trek ranges from NPR 300–400, and the speeds are usually fine for basic browsing and calls.
Wi-Fi on Tamang Heritage Trail
Wi-Fi is available in the main villages like Gatlang, Tatopani, Nagthali, Thuman, and Briddim. Most tea houses provide Wi-Fi through local routers.
The connection is usually stable enough for messaging, checking emails, and light social media use, but it might not support video calls or large downloads.
The average Wi-Fi speed is around 1 to 3 Mbps. The Tamang Heritage Trek Wi-Fi usually costs between NPR 300 to 500 per device per day.
Charging Devices in Langtang, Gosaikunda, Helambu and Tamang Heritage
Charging and electricity services helps you a lot during the trek to connect with the loved ones. So let’s explore these services in each route of Langtang:
Charging in Langtang Valley
If you are in Syabrubesi or Lama Hotel, most tea houses let you charge your gadgets at your table or in your room. In higher altitudes, especially at Kyanjin Gompa, you will find power depends on solar energy.

Each device you use in the Lama Hotel will cost NPR 150–300 an hour. It’s easy to charge your phone, a camera or a small power bank with a solar charger.
Charging in Gosaikunda area
In Dhunche, Sing Gompa and Laurebina, making a call is possible in the main dining area. Once you pass Sing Gompa, your power may be restricted, and solar energy might be required. Consumers may have to pay up to NPR 300 to charge each device during peak seasons.
Pack a good quality, charged power bank (20,000 mAh) or solar charger because reliable electricity might be in short supply near the lake.
But during the festival time, Janai Purnima in Gosaikunda be prepared to pay more extra than you think since they will ask for a huge amount for charging devices.
Charging in Helambu Trek
Helambu has nicer facilities. Great news. Most hotels supply free or affordable electric charging, and some even set up power strips inside the rooms.
Some even have power strips in the rooms. In lower areas, the power is from the grid, while in higher places, they may use solar.
It’s easy to keep your devices charged throughout the trek, but it’s still wise to carry a power bank, especially if you use your phone for GPS, photos, or offline maps.
Charging Tamang Heritage Trail
You can charge your devices in most tea houses along the trail, especially in villages like Syabrubesi, Gatlang, Tatopani, and Briddim. In most places, charging is done in the dining area, though some lodges provide power strips in the rooms.
The power supply mostly depends on solar energy, so during cloudy days or busy seasons, charging might be limited.
You can charge phones, power banks, and camera batteries without any problem. However, it’s a good idea to carry a fully charged power bank of at least 20,000 mAh or bring a solar charger, especially after reaching Nagthali, where charging options become very limited.

Mobile Network Coverage in Langtang, Gosaikunda, Helambu and Tamang Heritage
The mobile network coverage in the Langtang region becomes one major factor for the trek. The major SIMs one can use are NTC and Ncell. So, let’s explore these both:
Mobile Network in Langtang Valley
You won’t have much mobile network up in Langtang. There is much less of a signal drop with NTC than with Ncell after Lama Hotel or Ghodatabela.
Good News! Only in year 2025, electricity services reached Lama Hotel. But still, we cannot fully depend on the electricity of such places. The lodges and teahouses have solar devices for such outrage.
Ncell rarely works past Lama Hotel. NTC may give some signal in Langtang village and even Kyanjin Gompa on clear days, but it’s not reliable.
If you really need to make a call, your best chance is during early mornings when the signal tends to be slightly better.
Mobile Network in Gosaikunda
Networks from Ncell and NTC are fine up to Dhunche and Sing Gompa, but beyond these spots, you need to expect a very low signal.
You might see the occasional NTC coverage around Gosaikunda Lake, but it’s best not to count on mobile networks high up at Lauribina La.
You may get a decent signal in Dhunche and Sing Gompa, but once you pass Cholangpati and Lauribina, the signal gets very weak or disappears. There’s almost no network near Gosaikunda Lake.
Again, if you’re depending on mobile data or calling, carry an NTC SIM and try using it in open areas early in the morning when signals tend to be stronger.
Mobile Network in Helambu Valley
Helambu is the area with the best mobile phone reception of the three. You can usually get NTC network in places like Tarkeghyang and Sermathang and occasionally Ncell is also accessible. Stay safe by obtaining an NTC SIM to boost your phone’s coverage here.
Mobile Network in Tamang Heritage Trail
The mobile network on the Tamang Heritage Trail is limited and can be patchy in several parts of the trek. Nepal Telecom (NTC) works better than Ncell on this route.
You can expect decent network coverage in lower villages like Syabrubesi, Gatlang, and Briddim. However, as you move towards Nagthali and Tatopani, the signal often gets weak or completely disappears, especially in forested and higher altitude areas.
Tips for Staying Connected and Charged in Langtang Region
- Use an NTC SIM card for better mobile coverage in remote areas.
- Download offline maps like Maps or Google Maps offline.
- Always carry a high-capacity power bank (20,000 mAh minimum).
- Consider bringing a solar charger, especially for longer treks.
- Install offline translation apps like Google Translate to help communicate in villages.
- It is better to take a data package instead of using Wi-Fi. It will reduce the expenses of the trek.
- For NTC, use *1415#, and for Ncell, use *123# to take data packages.
By preparing ahead, you can stay connected and powered throughout your Langtang, Gosaikunda, Tamang Heritage or Helambu adventure. Though the Langtang Valley Wi-Fi and network may not be perfect, with a few smart tools, you’ll be ready for the trail.
